How Fat Are You? The Body Mass Index May Help

The National Instutitutes of Health (NIH) suggest tracking body fat using the Obesity Guidelines from the BODY MASS INDEX (BMI) calculator. Using a ratio between height and weight, the individuals BMI is calculated. The resulting number will help place you in the Normal, Overweight, Obese or VERY Obese category. The BMI should be used in conjunction with other assessments like a body fat test for true accuracy. This calculation does not distinguish between lean body tissue and fat.

The features of the BMI calcuator is its simplicity, correlates to fatness and applies to both men and women. This is by no means the only measure by which you should judge your overall health but it certainly points you in the right direction.
